Pharmacology 2013 Update: Medical Management of Common Comorbid Conditions

Pharmacology 2013 Update: Medical Management of Common Comorbid Conditions

This workshop will address the principles of pharmacotherapeutics with a focus on cardiovascular medications. Prescribing has long been a major component of the role of advanced practice nurses, but it has become more complex, especially in patients with cardiovascular disease where polypharmacy is more prevalent and the risk for adverse interactions is increased.

This course will be taught by Nurse Practitioners and Physicians in an intensive format and will include content on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, antiarrhythmic medications, anticoagulation therapies, pulmonary hypertension medications, and inotropic and vasodilator therapies. The workshop will also include a segment on the clinical pearls in the management of co-morbidities in heart failure. Case-based scenarios will be utilized throughout the course to reinforce content.

The Cardiovascular Pharmacology Course is intended to partially meet the pharmacology requirements for recertification beginning January 1, 2014, as detailed by the American Nurses Credentialing Corporation. (Please refer to www.nursecredentialing.org for further information on this change in requirements).
