Pre-Conference Workshop: Pharmacology Review: From Inpatient to Outpatient

Pre-Conference Workshop: Pharmacology Review: From Inpatient to Outpatient

This workshop will address the principles of pharmcotherapeutics with a focus on the heart failure (HF) patient from the point of admission to discharge. Prescribing has long been a major component of the role of advanced practice nurses, but it has become more complex, especially in patients with heart failure where polypharmacy is more prevalent and the risk for adverse interactions is increased.

Expert clinicians and providers will provide education in an intensive format to include content on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, management of HF in the emergency department and ICU, medical therapy in the management of systolic HF, medical management of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, antiplatelet and antithrombotic therapies, and management of HF at the end of life. Case-based review at the end of the workshop will outline key points and treatment strategies in the medical management of HF.

This Cardiovascular Pharmacology Course provides pharmacology credit that may be used to meet the pharmacology requirements for recertification beginning in 2014 as detailed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. (Please refer to www.nursecredentialing.org for further information on this change in renewal requirements).
