The Minnesota Department of Transportation
continues to enhance and expand the use of GIS technology to improve our
planning, design, construction, and maintenance processes. During this
presentation, I will highlight some of the GIS uses across the department, roles
of the newly formed central GIS support unit, give updates to the three projects
listed below, and give contact information for your follow on questions.
The Mn/DOT BaseMap is a set of transportation
related information developed specifically for GIS use and it has recently
undergone a bit of a face-lift. The data has not only been updated but has been
enhanced. I will briefly give an update on what’s new about the data, what
data is available, and how to access the data online.
Mn/DOT’s Location Data Server is a new system
being developed to centrally manage more stable location information for other
applications to use to locate, integrate, and analyze transportation data using
different referencing systems. I will give a brief overview and status of the
project.
Mn/Model is a GIS-based archaeological predictive model that helps Mn/DOT avoid impacts on archaeological sites throughout Minnesota. I will give a brief overview of the project and its new website.
