This week in San Francisco, PSDA is holding its annual Technology Conference, which teaches leading business executives in the printing industry how they can adopt cutting- edge technologies to grow their businesses. Kodak Unveils Digital Production Color Platform


With significant new quality and productivity capabilities, the new KODAK NEXPRESS SX Digital Production Color Platform with Print Genius is designed to meet the needs of commercial printers, in-plant printers, data centers and photo printers. The newest features include speeds up to 131 ppm, a longer sheet size (26 inch/661mm), smaller ink particle size, denser black ink and a new matte printing effect option. Most existing NEXPRESS Press users can easily upgrade to take full advantage of the new capabilities. At 26 inches, the long sheet option – which was shown by Kodak at Graph Expo last week in Chicago – delivers 27 percent more printable area. The benefits of this longer sheet include reduced waste and increased productivity, while enabling new applications such as six-page brochures, posters, larger dust jackets for books and a variety of labels.

Transpromo Practices Transform B2B Communications

Transpromo is not only for financial companies and utilities that are communicating with consumers. According to recent research from Pitney Bowes Inc., the use of transpromo among business-to-business (B2B) firms has also increased. A recently released white paper reveals that transpromo – the practice of adding marketing messages to bills and statements and other transactional documents – is being widely used by B2B companies. Approximately 34 percent of B2B companies in the United Kingdom, France and Germany indicated that they have put personalized messages on bills, statements and customer service communications. This trend is also reflected outside Europe, with the United States recording a similar figure of 31 percent. Download the white paper to learn more.

RR Donnelley Develops Innovative Digital Press

Chicago-based R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. recently announced that it has developed the industry's first 60" wide high speed ink jet digital press. New 60" presses, expected to be deployed in the first half of 2011, will enhance the company's fleet of proprietary ProteusJet digital printing units. One recently expanded production facility alone will utilize five ProteusJet presses to produce trade and educational books. The company has integrated one- and multiple-color digital printing presses with delivery systems that enable digitally printed content to be finished in-line into books, direct mail pieces, catalogs, marketing communications, magazines and other products.
