Bear Graphics Sells Publication Division

PSDA member Bear Graphics of Sioux City, Iowa, sold The Ames Sun to Stephens Media, LLC, of Las Vegas. The Ames Sun is a weekly newspaper with a circulation of 37,000 serving Ames and Story County in Iowa. Also included in the sale were the Bear Marketing division, The Magic Mailer, Real Estate Weekly, Real Estate Digest and Living Well. No purchase price was disclosed. The sale of this division will have no impact on Bear's traditional print distributor model that traces its roots to 1857. Bear Graphics will continue in the business forms, envelope and commercial printing business in Ames and function as a single-source print management and solutions provider.

USA\Docufinish Touts New Equipment

PSDA member USA\Docufinish – which specializes in pressure-sensitive labels, integrated cards, integrated labels, EZ release cards and other value-added solutions – recently announced the addition of new digital label manufacturing equipment to its facility. The new equipment offers the ability to digitally print on a variety of pressure-sensitive substrates, including Single Ply, Piggyback, EZ Release and others, as well as complete digital finishing of virtually any shape or size without the need for plates or dies. The investment in new equipment will enable USA\Docufinish to better satisfy the growing demand for short-run, cost-effective roll label products and to further increase its position to service all value-added product needs for clients. USA\Docufinish will also continue to expand its stock and custom products during the next quarter to better meet growing demand for affordable, high-quality label products.

Color-Logic Enhances Process Metallic Printing System

Color-Logic recently released a digital version of its popular Color-Logic Process Metallic Printing System. Previously available only for offset lithography, the system enables licensed printers to produce striking metallic effects on certain digital presses produced by Hewlett-Packard Indigo and Xeikon. Color-Logic develops color communication systems and software tool sets for a variety of special-effect printing applications. It provides brand owners, product managers, corporations and their advertising agencies the ability to differentiate themselves and their clients with a simple print production process that yields dramatic results.

SPC Releases "From Paper to People" Video

Illinois-based Specialty Print Communications (SPC), a print and direct marketing company, recently produced a three-minute video, "From Paper to People," that demonstrates the process of complex inline manufacturing – the marriage of web printing, variable imaging and inline finishing. The video uses illustrative overlays to help educate viewers on the process of converting a roll of paper into a finished piece of direct mail, in a turnkey process, which takes only 30 seconds. "We wanted to illustrate, simply, how direct mail formats are produced inline and the different possibilities this unique manufacturing process allows," said Dustin LeFebvre, SPC executive vice president of marketing.

Rochester Updates Web-to-Print Software

Rochester Software Associates, a provider of production print workflow software solutions for in-plant printers, recently announced the latest release of its award-winning web-to-print software, WebCRD V8.1. This release adds capabilities in the application's variable data and personalization workflow and improves end user and print center digital workflows, increasing efficiencies and improving job turn-around.
