St. Louis Area Members Gather, Discuss PSDA's 2011 Plans

Representatives of several PSDA member companies in the St. Louis area gathered earlier this week for an informal meet-and-greet session with PSDA Executive Vice President Matt Sanderson. Topics during the discussion, held over lunch hosted by PSDA member DataSource, included PSDA's 2011 plans and programs and members' suggestions. PSDA Staff Profile: Meet David Merli

Get to know members of your association staff in selected editions of the Print Solutions e-newsletter. Up first: Meet David Merli.

What is your role on the PSDA staff team?
I am the Sales Manager for the PSDA sales team. Our department is responsible for selling exhibit space at the Print Solutions Conference & Expo and regional events, sponsorships for all PSDA meetings as well as the advertising in Print Solutions Magazine and interactive media on our online properties.

As a longtime PSDA staff member, how do you feel about the association’s future?
I am energized about the future of PSDA. I feel that I am part of a very strong team that will be able to deliver new and important programs to our members for many years to come. We will be able to evolve as an association and as an industry leader in the coming years.

What is your favorite PSDA memory or experience?
My favorite memory is attending my first then-NBFA Annual meeting in October 1995 as it was our 50th anniversary as an association. I had been with NBFA for just less than a year, but I realized even then that this association and its members were special and that I was in it for the long haul. And, 17 years later, I am proud to say I am still a part of this family.

What has kept you with PSDA for so long?
A steady paycheck! Just kidding – it was the sense of family that as a staff we shared for many years. I also contribute my longevity to the members and the relationships that I have made. They keep me going day to day!

What are some "fun facts" or surprising pieces of information about you?
That I bleed CMYK and worked as a printer for four years during my high school days and also have a Graphic Arts degree from La Roche College and came straight to PSDA (NBFA) after graduation. Some people would be surprised to hear that, in addition to my beautiful wife, I also have two children that are ages 25 and 19. I know I don't seem old enough to have children that old, but I do. Oh, and I'm an Eagle Scout!

Repacorp Inc. Acquires Aladdin Label Inc.

PSDA member Repacorp Inc. – manufacturer of RFID labels, label products, screen, digital and flexo printing – recently announced it has acquired the assets of Waukesha, WI-based Aladdin Label Inc., also a PSDA member. Richard and Gayle Schwartz, former owners of Aladdin Label Inc., said, "We chose Repacorp to acquire our business because we liked the family atmosphere Repacorp brought to the table. Repacorp is also involved with new technologies like digital printing and RFID. By adding these new technologies to Aladdin, it would give Aladdin's employees and company new growth. Repacorp has had a presence in Wisconsin since 1999. We like that Repacorp will keep the majority of the employees in Wisconsin." Aladdin Label will continue to operate as Aladdin Label, and Repacorp looks forward to opportunities to leverage Aladdin's assets to make Repacorp an even stronger company.

Chesapeake Promotional Products Association Becomes SAGE Affiliate

The Chesapeake Promotional Products Association (CPPA) and PSDA member SAGE recently announced that CPPA has become a SAGE Affiliate. As a SAGE Affiliate, members of CPPA are entitled to discounts on a variety of SAGE services, including SAGE Online, SAGE Mobile, SAGE WebExpress Pro, SAGE WebStore and SAGE Company Store. Current SAGE subscribers may contact SAGE to apply the CPPA discount to their current subscriptions, effective as of the next renewal. CPPA members who add SAGE services can obtain the discount by noting CPPA membership on their applications.

Regency Office Products Adds to Leadership Team

PSDA member Regency Office Products, an independently owned office supply company and print and promotional products distributor, recently announced the addition of Herb Newton (pictured) as Director of Value Optimization. Newton will lead the national sales team, concentrating on print and promotional products services. Newton previously served as a national account manager for American Solutions for Business, one of the industry's top print distributors, as well as vice president for Gage Van Horn & Associates Inc. in San Angelo, TX.

DemandBridge Announces Document Builder Feature

PSDA member DemandBridge, LLC recently announced plans to launch Document Builder, a feature within DB Enterprise that will make its e-commerce and marketing automation system more valuable for distributors. Document Builder involves three simple steps. The first step is adding print files. A powerful web-based upload tool accepts dozens of file formats, including PDF, Word, PowerPoint and JPEG. Users can upload multiple files at once. The second step is choosing from a wide range of paper and binding options. Users can modify these options on the fly, viewing changes instantly in WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") fashion. Also, users can easily manage sections of their documents by reorganizing and updating tabs and inserts without leaving the screen. The third step is posting documents to a storefront so authorized users can place orders. Those orders can be printed and delivered by whomever and however DB Enterprise clients choose.

R.R. Donnelley Acquires Online Provider 8touches

PSDA member R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company recently acquired 8touches, an online provider of easy-to-use tools that allow real estate sales associates, brokers, multiple listing service (MLS) associations and other marketers to create customized communications materials, such as direct mail, fliers and brochures. 8touches' branded online resources provide access to more than 1,000 customized templates into which profiles, MLS data and pictures for selected listings can auto-populate. The comprehensive toolset also offers sophisticated mapping features, the ability to obtain surrounding address information and access to demographics that enhance targeted direct mailings.
