Discuss Successful Business Strategies with Small Distributing Companies

Connect with other business owners and learn how they grow their business and respond to change at PSDA's 2011 Small Distributor Summit, Sept. 16–18 in Pittsburgh. During the event, attendees discuss ideas, successes and lessons learned with other small distributors who have adjusted their business models to fit their regions or economic climates, and built successful business relationships.

To kick off the event, SDS Co-Chairs Dave Vener and Kevin Landry will host Working Together to Strengthen Our Companies where they'll help attendees learn how to make the most of the weekend, what is in store for you, and how networking and peer-to-peer discussions are the cornerstone of the conference.

PSDA Member Gets New Name, Headquarters Facility

PSDA member New Loyalty USA Inc. (formerly Priority Systems) is now located in Wheeling, IL, near Chicago Executive Airport. In spring 2011, New Loyalty purchased the assets of Priority Systems, and in late June the company moved to a modern, 60,000-square-foot facility with increased data processing capabilities, personalization and mailing equipment. Key management is in place providing custom programming for complex variable data print programs, personalized loyalty and membership cards and communications and reporting. New Loyalty works with PSDA distributors throughout North America.

Printers of All Sizes Encouraged to Compete for GPO Work

Too often printers think they have to be capable of producing multi-million dollar jobs to compete for the approximately $400 million in work that the United States Government Printing Office (GPO) awards annually to private sector printers. That is a myth, according to Deborah Snider, senior vice president of e-LYNXX Corp. The majority of the firms doing the federal government’s print work are small businesses, according to GPO officials. Many have 20 or fewer employees, and only some of the 2,500 printers that actively vie for GPO work are corporate printers that have multiple plants in different parts of the country.

"The truth is most jobs put out for bid by GPO are in the $3,000 to $5,000 range and most often involve what average-size printers do on a daily basis — envelopes, tags, color copying, kit folders, cut sheets, four-color process and promotional specialties, to mention only a few categories of print jobs," Snider said. "GPO puts these out for bid as one-time jobs or jackets and as multi-year programs."
