SDS Presenter Offers HR Solutions to Small Distributors

Claudia St. John, president of Affinity HR Group, a PSDA Affinity Partner, will be hosting the HR Roundtable at the Small Distributor Summit, Sept. 16–18 in Pittsburgh. St. John said she learned of the unique needs of small distributors at last year's event and is excited to offer solutions specifically designed for PSDA's small distributors or distributors with fewer than five employees.

"Being a small company doesn't mean that employment laws don't apply," St. John said. "In fact, they do and the fines are based on the severity of the error, not the size of the company, so violations can be very expensive for small businesses. The good news is that getting your HR house in order doesn’t need to be expensive or labor intensive as long as you know the basics."

Pilgrim Plastics Unveils New Website

Brockton, Mass.-based Pilgrim Plastics, a PSDA member supplier of plastic promotional products such as cards, luggage tags and rulers, recently unveiled its new website designed to enhance the sales of its loyal distributor base. Some of the new features include online ordering, uploading of purchase orders, auto proofing, paying with credit cards, building e-catalogs and e-flyers and more. Mark Abrams, president of Pilgrim Plastics, said the new website "represents our ongoing technology commitment to our customers, to be the best we can be." The Pilgrim Plastics product line is 100 percent made in the US, which helps to eliminate stock shortages, and it features free three-day service on many products.

Ennis, Glatfelter Continue VIP Series Conference Events

Wilmer Approved Vendor for Florida Prescription Pads

The Florida Department of Health is notifying all Agency for Health Care Administration-approved vendors of counterfeit-proof pads for medical providers of new legislation, which will go into effect Aug. 29. Florida counterfeit-proof prescription blanks must be used by licensed health care practitioners who prescribe controlled substances, Chapter 2011-14J Section 2, Laws of Florida amends Chapter 893, Florida Statutes, Section 456.42(2), requiring licensed health care practitioners to purchase counterfeit-proof prescription blanks from vendors approved by the Department of Health. PSDA member Wilmer is one of the few Florida-approved Security Printers.

Global Print Production Software Market Expected to Surpass $10.8 Billion by 2015

InfoTrends' latest print production workflow market forecast shows the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will be 7.9 percent between 2010 and 2015, despite the fact that most regions are still recovering from the global economic recession. Although the U.S. and Western European markets are mature, emerging economies (particularly Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region) are still developing and therefore offer more opportunity for growth.

"The need for more personalized multi-channel communications and production workflow efficiencies will drive growth in this market," commented Kaspar Roos, an associate director at InfoTrends. "Growth will also come from emerging markets and innovative licensing models (i.e., Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) deployment and new opportunities in connecting print with other channels like mobile and social media)."

With the printing industry in a state of massive transition during the past few years, today's print buyers are strongly favoring on-demand printing, according to InfoTrends, and some are even forcing their suppliers to switch to digital printing. Meanwhile, the economy is forcing marketers to consider low-cost technologies. A strong need to measure results, while also developing and understanding new technologies, represents an enormous opportunity for print service providers and enterprise marketers that can offer software solutions to meet the requirements of a market in transition.

R.R. Donnelley Awarded $300 Million Print Management Agreement

Meredith, by Meredith, a media and marketing company serving American women, recently awarded PSDA member R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company with a $300 million multiyear print management agreement worth $300 million. Under the terms of the agreement, which renews, extends and expands the companies' relationship, R.R. Donnelley will provide a broad array of products and services, including magazine and book production, logistics services such as co-mailing, and an innovative print management program. R.R. Donnelley's on- and near-site print management professionals will deliver a range of services to help contain costs and enhance the effectiveness of Meredith's transactional, commercial printed and other documents.
