With a great response to the Print Solutions e-newsletter feature article on PSDA's sourcing expert Charlie Roberts, we've decided to make him a monthly guest. Roberts receives standard and "untraditional" sourcing jobs daily. He then begins the task of connecting the PSDA print distributors to companies that have the necessary requirements to fulfill the job. Below are few unusual requests that have recently come to PSDA headquarters.
PSDA member Formax recently introduced MailDoc Professional Postal Module. The new module further enhances postal savings with MailDoc by running addresses through CASS, PAVE First Class list management software with the optional use of NCOA list certification. The CASS, PAVE process checks mailing lists for address accuracy and presorts mail by ZIP code or AADC. The optional NCOA list certificate cleanses mailing addresses and updates them to qualify for first class postage discounts and avoid undeliverable mail. Formax also released three new high-security shredders, with a variety of commercial grade features: the FD 8730HS High Security Paper & Optical Media Shredder, the FD 8650HS High Security AutoOiler Office Shredder, and the FD 8300HS High Security Deskside Shredder. Each meets NSA/CSS specifications for Level 6 high security cross-cut shredders.
PSDA member All Barcode Systems, a California-based label manufacturer and automated data collection equipment distributor, has been accepted as a Brother Mobile Solutions Partner. "We're excited to be accepted," said Scott Steiner, president of All Barcode Systems. "Our latest partnership with Brother gives us an exciting product line of color printers to offer to our customers. Many of our customers like being able to print two-color asset labels on demand, but the cost with existing multicolor printers was prohibitive. Brother offers the technology at an extreme well-positioned price point, and now we can offer it to our customers."
The Mid-Atlantic Promotional Products Association (MAPPA) and New England Promotional Products Association (NEPPA) recently became SAGE Affiliates. As a SAGE Affiliate, members of these associations are entitled to discounts on a variety of SAGE services, including SAGE Online, SAGE Mobile, SAGE WebExpress Pro, SAGE WebStore, and SAGE Company Store. Current subscribers may contact SAGE, a PSDA member, to apply the discounts to their current subscriptions, effective as of the next renewal. MAPPA and NEPPA members who add the services can obtain the discount by noting their membership on the application. In addition to discounts on services, SAGE will also provide MAPPA and NEPPA members with a variety of services as part of the relationship, including association websites and access to its marketing resources.
Pad Print Machinery of Vermont (PPMOV) soon will need more space in its 22,500-square-foot building to make room for a custom XD070 Multi-Color Digital Ink Jet printer being built for a large health care products manufacturer. This printer will feature a pre-treatment station, six colors, and UV curing. Because it will be placed within a production line, a 25-foot conveyor will be added; it is one of the largest digital ink jet machines built at PPMOV. The digital ink jet printer versatility includes height and width capability of 12 inches and can print fine lines and details in process color at speeds of 16 inches per second.
OKI Data Americas recently announced the availability of the DigiPro lineal slitting system for use with the OKI pro510DW digital web press. The slitter developed by DigiFlex Distribution LLC is designed to fit pre-existing rewind units for the OKI pro510DW. DigiFlex Distribution will offer the DigiPro slitter within the flexographic market. This new addition to the innovative OKI proColor line will further enhance the OKI pro510DW’s usefulness. The DigiPro system allows users to slit inline as part of the printing process, producing a finished product in a single pass. Previously, printing wide web formats without this system required offline slitting equipment. The DigiPro system is designed to allow users to make lineal adjustments during the printing/slitting process, to ensure optimal cutting of all media. The system is designed to lock slitter positions prior to printing, and can be adjusted in-between prints based upon user needs and media specifications.
