Hear Practical Business Advice at Small Distributor Summit

Sharing new business ideas, ventures and advice is the best way to advance your small distributorship and position your company at the top of the industry.

Learn the steps distributor panelists Bill Strobridge, Dave Vener and David Houston took to retool their businesses, train their employees and keep up with customer needs in Invest in Yourself at PSDA's 2011 Small Distributor Summit, Sept. 16–18 in Pittsburgh.

As a preview to the sharing presence at SDS, Strobridge, Vener and Houston share business advice that has resonated with them and helped them make the decisions that changed the way they do business.

What is the best piece of professional advice you have received?

Vener: "Write it down." You are more likely to accomplish a goal if it is written down — and I always encourage my team to focus on "the power of having a plan."

Houston: "Create processes for your business" — which I learned at last year's SDS conference. We were able to create processes that helped streamline the way we do business and ultimately increase revenue. Since our business has changed from a print distributor to a marketing agency, we needed to implement processes for the marketing services we provide in order to capture billable hours and creative strategies.

Strobridge: A keynote speaker once said, "Know your stuff; know who you are stuffing; and keep on stuffing them." It's kind of humorous, but it has stuck with me to this day.

Submit Information by Tomorrow for PSDA's 2012 Buyers' Guide

The October 2011 issue of Print Solutions magazine, now in production, will feature PSDA's 2012 Buyers' Guide. Print industry professionals tell us that they frequently refer to the annual guide when faced with sourcing questions. By completing your company's profile, you will ensure inclusion in this valuable issue of Print Solutions.

Don't delay: In order for your company to be included in PSDA's 2012 Buyers' Guide, you must follow the instructions below and create your company's profile online by TOMORROW.

  • Visit the 2012 Buyers' Guide data collection Web page.
  • Create your user account: all respondents must create a user ID and password by filling in the requested information. Your PSDA website username and password will not work in this system.
  • Once you've created your user account, you'll be prompted to follow three steps:
    • Step 1: Select 'create company listing' and fill in the requested information.
    • Step 2: If you have branch locations that you want included, add them during step 2.
    • Step 3: Make sure to submit your responses so your information will be captured by the system. You will receive an email confirmation once your information has been successfully submitted.
  • In the event you need to make changes, you will be able to log in and update your company's information at any time on or before close of business tomorrow: Friday, Sept. 2.

Please note that we are using a new process to collect information this year, so your company must follow the above instructions by Sept. 2 in order to be included in the 2012 Buyers' Guide. We will not simply "use last year's listing" in order to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the new guide.

We appreciate you taking the time to complete your company's profile. Please contact PSDA headquarters at 800.230.0175 with any questions.

WebbMason Launches On-Demand Document Printing Technology

PSDA member and marketing solutions provider WebbMason recently introduced an on-demand document printing technology that gives companies the ability to control procurement of "on-the-fly" printing while making it easy for users to design, assemble, print and custom-order business documents from their computers. Called docBuilder, the technology enables users to create documents online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and have their printed orders delivered the next business day — for less than it would cost at a typical retail print chain. WebbMason's docBuilder gives companies an all-in-one solution for controlling the cost and quality of their printed materials.
