Learn the steps distributor panelists Bill Strobridge, Dave Vener and David Houston took to retool their businesses, train their employees and keep up with customer needs in Invest in Yourself at PSDA's 2011 Small Distributor Summit, Sept. 16–18 in Pittsburgh.
As a preview to the sharing presence at SDS, Strobridge, Vener and Houston share business advice that has resonated with them and helped them make the decisions that changed the way they do business.
What is the best piece of professional advice you have received?
Vener: "Write it down." You are more likely to accomplish a goal if it is written down and I always encourage my team to focus on "the power of having a plan."
Houston: "Create processes for your business" which I learned at last year's SDS conference. We were able to create processes that helped streamline the way we do business and ultimately increase revenue. Since our business has changed from a print distributor to a marketing agency, we needed to implement processes for the marketing services we provide in order to capture billable hours and creative strategies.
Strobridge: A keynote speaker once said, "Know your stuff; know who you are stuffing; and keep on stuffing them." It's kind of humorous, but it has stuck with me to this day.
The PSDA discounted rate of just $109 per night (plus tax) with the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh International Airport expires Wednesday, Sept. 7.
If you're flying to Pittsburgh, be sure to buy your plane ticket today to get the best rate. If you wait until tomorrow, it'll be less than two weeks from the Small Distributor Summit, and that means you'll be paying a premium to fly. Or, if you're in the Midwest or Mid-Atlantic, drive to the Small Distributor Summit. Pittsburgh International Airport's long-term parking — which costs only $8 a day — is located just behind the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh International Airport.

PSDA member and marketing solutions provider WebbMason recently introduced an on-demand document printing technology that gives companies the ability to control procurement of "on-the-fly" printing while making it easy for users to design, assemble, print and custom-order business documents from their computers. Called docBuilder, the technology enables users to create documents online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and have their printed orders delivered the next business day — for less than it would cost at a typical retail print chain. WebbMason's docBuilder gives companies an all-in-one solution for controlling the cost and quality of their printed materials.
