Take Advantage of the Printing Sales DNA Project

Industry consultant Dave Fellman has launched The Printing Sales DNA Project, a research study to determine what skills, attitudes and personality traits are most important to printing salespeople. The study will cover all segments of the print industry, including distributors and printers with their own presses, and it is open to all salespeople and sales managers. The goal is to identify both what salespeople think is important, and what management thinks is important, and ultimately to get everyone on the same page.

Fellman has identified 20 "success factors," and the survey will ask you to rate the importance of each of these factors. The exercise should take you no more than eight minutes.Each survey participant will receive a free copy of the basic findings along with a discount offer on a more comprehensive report. Gill Studios Welcomes 2 New Associates to Marketing Team

PSDA member Gill Studios is pleased to announce that Dana Henton (below, left) has taken the position as product line manager/sales for Bebco. Henton started her career at Gill Studios in October 2011 as a regional sales associate. Her duties will include both marketing and sales responsibilities. In marketing, she will be responsible for product development, pricing, positioning, competitive analysis and new product development. In sales, she will be responsible for supporting distributors and the sales team for Bebco.

Gill is also pleased to announce that Courtney Yantis (below, right) has been promoted to the position of marketing assistant. Yantis began her career with Gill in March 2014 as a production artist. Yantis will assist in portraying the company image through social media, advertising and PR, plan and fulfill promotional mailings, and assist in the coordination of advertising and flyers to support inside and outside sales.

DFS Improves W2P Site Dedicated to Full Color Excellence

PSDA member DFS recently announced enhancements to DFSfullcolor.com, the dedicated website designed to provide trade printers with easy and complete access to DFS products and options for wholesale full-color printing.

DFSfullcolor.com now features improved speed on file uploads. Other enhancements include a new mailing service that allows resellers to offer their customers a one-stop solution for printing and mailing virtually anything, from catalogs to postcards. The website also boasts a new address book functionality that lets resellers access and easily populate customer addresses while placing orders.

In order to meet customer demand, the DFSfullcolor.com site has undergone a host of new product additions. Resellers can now offer large-format, removable adhesive banners in matte or gloss, window envelopes in four stocks, wine and bottle labels in seven formats of size and shape and six EDDM-compliant postcard sizes available in quantities from 100 to 10,000. In addition, resellers can now offer 13-pt. recycled matte brochure paper with three additional folding options: gate, double-gate and four-panel accordion. There is also the addition of the Design Gallery, which features thousands of design templates, making it fast and easy to create print-ready files.

"Even if a reseller has used DFSfullcolor.com in the past and has seen all our user-friendly features, we believe they will be impressed by these latest upgrades," said DFS President Fred Collins. "And if they haven't yet explored the website, users will find just how easy it is to provide all kinds of high-quality, full-color materials at reasonable prices."

TEAM Concept Printing Adds Fast, Flexible Press

PSDA member TEAM Concept Printing is pleased to announce the addition of a new Komori SX29 Six-Color Plus Coater Press with H-UV inking and coating capabilities to its press room. This fully-automated press features six-color printing plus a coating tower for increased flexibility for the most demanding projects and is designed to shorten turn times. The Komori SX29 is a multifeature press that enables faster setup. Its closed loop spectrophotometer allows repeat order consistency run-after-run regardless of time between printings, and the de-inking and pre-inking functions ensure color consistency throughout even short print runs.

The UV inking function eliminates the need for drying time, as press sheets are immediately dry upon printing. This in turn allows for faster turnaround time, and the bindery can cut and fold sheets without delay. In addition, multiple substrates can be used including plastics, films, foils and other non-porous materials. UV inks are cured before they soak into the sheet, providing a cleaner dot and more vibrant color and H-UV inks will not fade in sunlight. In-line coating allows for flood UV coating, in-line soft touch coating, flood aqueous and other coatings.

Last, but by no means least, the Komori SX29 is a packaging powerhouse. It accepts up to 32-point thickness, ideal for use in a variety of specialty packaging needs or whenever very heavy paper is needed. It is designed to accept press sheets as large as 24 inch by 29-1/2 inch.

Postal Regulatory Commission Approves U.S. Postal Service Price Increases Set for April 26

The Postal Regulatory Commission approved both adjustments to First Class Mail services, as well as for competitive express and parcel shipping changes.

The First Class Mail retail service will remain at 49c, but with additional ounces increasing from 21 to 22c, and postcards rising to 35c.

On average, First Class Mail rates will rise by just under 2 percent, with presorted letter and card rates rising by 2.422 percent, flats by 2.437 percent and parcels 10.18 percent.

drupa Innovation Park 2016 to Present Platform for Future Technologies in 6 Theme Parks

The drupa innovation park 2016 (dip) at drupa 2016, the world's leading trade fair for print and cross-media solutions, will again be the focal point for the industry's latest inspiring and creative developments. The six theme parks will display current trends and topics along with business cases related to process-oriented print and publishing solutions. drupa will take place from May 31 through June 10, 2016, at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.
