Tune into PSDA's Hit New Show: So You Think You Can Make the Top Distributor or Top Trade Printer List


PSDA doesn't actually have a hit new show coming out, but we still think you have a chance to make the 2015 Top Distributor or Top Trade Printer list! However, you'll never know where you rank if you don't fill out the survey.

Every year, PS Magazine publishes the results of these important industry surveys in the June/July and August issues, respectively. We only feature the companies that respond, so if you don't complete the survey, you won't be recognized in these issues. High stakes, right?

Winners Never Quit ... But, Sometimes, They Do



The March issue of PS Magazine includes a new feature, About Face. This one-page section takes a commonly used and agreed-upon phrase, such as "winners never quit," and turns it on its head.

Because — sometimes — winners do quit.

"... you might feel better if you realize that while persistence is a virtue, so is giving up. The key, economists suggest, is to quit quickly, before sunk costs have a chance to weigh you down."

Regional Event Next Week: The Power of Personalization

Ward/Kraft Inc. Promotes Quick, Holt and Farmer

PSDA member Ward/Kraft Inc. recently announced the promotions of Phil Quick, Gina Holt and Chris Farmer in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Roger Kraft, owner/CEO, said: "A key part of our success hinges on our ability to maximize the talents within our company, to work as a team and to look to the future. We must know what products to market, what resellers and customers to market to, and what our equipment capabilities are when it comes to profit dollars per hour."

Phil Quick (below, left) has been promoted to president of manufacturing of all four divisions: forms, labels, plastics and specialty coatings as well as the company's machinery and maintenance departments. Phil Quick has been a Ward/Kraft member for 25 years. "I am excited to work with our members to better serve our customers," he said.

Gina Holt (below, center), an 11-year member, accepted the promotion to president of national sales/marketing. Gina will oversee sales/marketing in all four Ward/Kraft divisions. "Our focus on execution in product and technology development has helped establish us as a leader in the print industry," Holt said. "I look forward to working with all our members in driving growth for both our company and our distributors for years to come."

Chris Farmer, who has been with Ward/Kraft for four years, was promoted to the position of chief financial officer. Farmer will oversee all accounting functions and policies for Ward/Kraft. In addition, he will be working on performing financial analysis and trending and turning those findings into action. "The future is definitely bright here as we continue to grow and develop new markets, products and opportunities while maintaining our legacy of excellence," Farmer said.

Navitor Announces New Luxury Business Cards

PSDA member Navitor recently added two new business card options to its stationery program: extra thick business cards and soft touch laminated business cards.

New extra thick business cards are made by combining two layers of premium  Mohawk Superfine Eggshell® Ultrawhite stock, which creates a substantial 34 pt. stock. Soft touch laminated business cards are finished with a laminate coating on the front side with a soft, suede-like texture that is also scratch and scuff resistant. Both extra thick and soft touch laminated business cards are available with full color print. Extra thick business cards are also available with rounded corners.

"We know our customers count on us for our wide offering of business cards and stationery papers and processes," said Sandy Bartels, Navitor senior product manager. "That is why we're pleased to be able to offer our customers these new, luxurious business cards as part of a continued drive to expand our specialty and premium stationery programs."

Navitor will also be offering special introductory pricing for extra thick business cards, allowing buyers to save 15 percent. This offer is exclusively for Navitor resellers and will be available through April 30.
RR Donnelley Announces CustomWave Brand of RFID Printed Electronics for Smart Labels

PSDA member RR Donnelley recently introduced CustomWave RFID Solutions. Leveraging its proprietary Printed Electronics platform, RR Donnelley's CustomWave RFID Solutions offer complete smart label solutions beginning with in-house RFID antenna design and performance testing and including printed inlay manufacturing, custom label and tag creation, fully automated quality control, and global distribution and fulfillment services. By customizing the RFID antenna and label/tag characteristics to the application, RR Donnelley's CustomWave RFID Solutions help customers improve their RFID return on investment through better overall performance.

CustomWave RFID Solutions feature the ability to print antennas on a variety of materials, including directly onto a label. Eliminating the plastic inlay and printing antennas directly onto label stock accommodates up to 30 percent more labels per roll and requires fewer rolls and packaging materials than traditional plastic inlay-based smart labels. Reducing the materials and the process steps enables CustomWave RFID Solutions to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option for smart label production.

"We continue to drive innovation and improve manufacturing processes to add value and productivity to our customers' supply chains," said Ronnie Sarkar, chief technology officer and senior vice president at RR Donnelley. "Our inlay-less, smart label solutions drive efficiencies by increasing the number of labels on a roll, decreasing roll changes and minimizing shipping and storage costs."

Xeikon Exhibits at PINE Industry Awards Gala

PSDA member Xeikon recently exhibited at the PINE Industry Awards Gala, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the graphic communications industry in the New England area. PINE (Printing Industries of New England) is a regional trade association with more than 125 years of service to the graphic communications industry providing resources, advocacy and education to its members.

The gala featured several awards honoring individuals and companies, and a showcase of vendor exhibits.

Xeikon had a vendor table, where representatives from the company were available to discuss its digital printing solutions for document and commercial printers.

Attendees were able to discover the advantages of the Xeikon 8000 Series of presses, which are specifically developed for the document and commercial printing market. The presses can handle a variety of substrates and offer an unbeatable combination of format flexibility, print quality and productivity. In addition, they also learned about the most productive digital color press in the Xeikon portfolio, the Xeikon 9800, which raises the bar of quality and versatility to an entirely new level.
