Selling Value-Added Solutions Online Series

It's hard to interest buyers if you just put ink on paper. If you want to make money you need to start selling solutions. You need to rebrand your company as a marketing services provider. You should be telling your customers all about your web to print solutions and how you can create great multichannel marketing campaigns.

The trouble is, it's a lot easier to talk about this than to do it. Selling these sorts of services requires a very different mindset to selling ink on paper. How do you sell these solutions to a prospect who has never heard of multichannel marketing?

DFS Launches New Mobile App

DFS in Groton, Mass., last week announced the creation of Job Tracker, an iOS-based mobile app that lets resellers track full-color print jobs and view their full-color order history.

Available immediately to any DFS reseller via Apple's App Store, Job Tracker includes up-to-the-minute details of a reseller's full color jobs both in-process and completed, as well as thumbnail views of uploaded designs. Plus, with a single click, resellers can call DFS Customer Support for questions about an order.

"Job Tracker app is yet another important advancement of DFS's extensive efforts in the full-color print market," said Fred Collins, president, DFS. "Giving our resellers all the tools they need to serve their customers, in this case, being able to stay on top of any job, is critical. "Innovating with a Homegrown Label Print MIS" – A Short Film by Label Traxx

Label Traxx recently launched a short film to educate and entertain the label print industry on the importance of being able to manage and share data across your organization and with customers. Titled "Innovating with a Homegrown Label Print MIS," the three-minute film documents the unbelievable lengths employees go to in managing the label converter manufacturing process with unconnected tools, including but not limited to post-it notes and Excel spreadsheets.

As the entire print industry now competes in a more connected and data-driven world, the print production process has to become less reliant on instincts and more reliant on data. Business deserves a trusted system of record that everyone — from pressman to sales people — relies on to make better business decisions.

The short film documents how homegrown systems can grow into complicated, manual and labor intensive processes that only survive because of employees.

"We wanted to tell a story that both educated and entertained, as most label converters on homegrown or legacy/unsupported systems know they have a data management challenge. Our film slightly exaggerates the lengths people might invent in order to manage a dynamic label printing plant using the manual tools at hand," explains Label Traxx president Ken Meinhardt.
NY Digital Firm Influence Print Announces 2015 Print Design Scholarship

Influence Print has announced its second annual visual communication design scholarship competition. The $1,000 scholarship is offered to students majoring or interested in design and applied arts or graphic design with strong academic records and outstanding creative abilities.

To be considered, all submitted works must be digitally created, and be based in visual communication design. Special consideration is given to entries that demonstrate that visual messages have a greater power to inform, educate or persuade a person or audience than text alone. The creative use of color as a way to reinforce or call attention to the message is also a determining factor.

This year's winner will be featured in a public gallery on the Influence Print Website, a site visited by industry-leading professionals who rely on the company's printing technologies and services including creative directors, production managers, designers and artists. The winner will also receive a large-format (up to 96×48") copy of their work, printed on an HP Scitex 700 large-format printer or its Digital C Lightjet photo printer — that will be printed to the winner’s specification.

Entries must be received by midnight Dec. 31, 2015.
