Gear Up for the 2015 PSDA Supplier Directory: Update Your Company Description


It's that time again! PSDA is starting work on the 2015 PSDA Supplier Directory, formerly known as the Sourcing Guide, and we need your help to make sure the information is as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

The PSDA Supplier Directory is an exclusive printed directory of sources for print, marketing and related services for use by PSDA member companies.

The guide is populated with company information from the Online Sourcing Guide, but, in order for the most accurate information to appear in the guide, each company must update its listing.

How to Review and Update Your Listing

Visit the Online Sourcing Guide to view your current listing. Please review the information and email PSDA Headquarters with any changes. The deadline for updating content is Friday, Aug. 22.

Top PSDA Member Distributors Revealed

Competition is fierce and some traditional print products are in decline, but fiscal year 2013 was better than fiscal year 2012 for most companies included in PSDA's 17th annual Top Distributors Survey.

Many firms are expanding their offerings and reaching new heights — two-thirds of the distributors responding to the survey for this feature increased their sales in fiscal year 2013.

TBF Graphics Merges with The F.P. Horak Company

PSDA member The F.P. Horak Company recently announced it will merge with TBF Graphics. The merger, to be finalized Sept. 1, 2014, gives customers increased access to expanded technology and resources.

“TBF Graphics has a longstanding business relationship with The F.P. Horak Company, with more than 20 years of corporate synergies existing between the two print service providers. Together, we will continue to diversify to meet the challenges of today's market while remaining at the forefront of the print and marketing industries,” said F.P. Horak President Tim Dust.

“The F.P. Horak Company is excited about the merger because of the strong reputation TBF Graphics has in the Saginaw community and beyond. F.P. Horak now has the opportunity to work with new customers with which we haven't previously done business.”

TBF Graphics President Scott Turner said: “TBF Graphics is happy to become part of a larger organization, with access to more resources and technologies. This merger allows us to move forward in the ever-changing print industry and invest in cutting-edge technology.”

TBF Graphics will move its Saginaw operations to The F.P. Horak Company facilities in Bay City, Mich.
Two Sides Signs Partnership with Canadian Printing Industries Association

PSDA partner Two Sides North America recently signed an agreement with the Canadian Printing Industries Association (CPIA), which has joined Two Sides as an allied organization to promote the responsible production, use and sustainability of print and paper products in the Canadian market.

“This agreement with CPIA is a great endorsement from the Canadian print industry and is the start of many developments needed to tell the great environmental story of print and paper in Canada, especially given Canada's outstanding record in sustainable forestry and environmental performance,” said Phil Riebel, president of Two Sides North America.

Other Two Sides member companies with a major Canadian presence include Canon, Cascades, Domtar, Envelope Manufacturers Association, Kodak, Port Hawkesbury Paper, Ricoh, Tembec and Unisource.

As part of its anti-greenwash campaign, Two Sides has already been working with major Canadian banks regarding misleading anti-paper claims used to promote electronic services and statements. “Over the past two years we have been pleased with our discussions,” Riebel said. “Major corporations are listening to the concerns of our members and they have made changes to their marketing messages so that the inherent sustainable features of print and paper are considered. Overall, we are seeing less go green-go paperless or save a tree claims, and more people understanding the real facts behind print and paper — that it is based on a renewable resource, is highly recyclable, uses mostly renewable energy to produce, and stores carbon for its useful life, among other benefits.”

As a result of Two Sides' campaign, over 25 leading Fortune 500 companies have removed or changed unsubstantiated claims that electronic communications are more environmentally friendly than print and paper.
Senate Candidate Visits Badger Tag & Label to Celebrate its Heritage, Support Wisconsin Businesses

Devin LeMahieu, candidate for Wisconsin 9th District Senate, recently visited PSDA member Badger Tag & Label to celebrate its business heritage and show support for the state's business climate.

While the economy continues to show mixed signs of improvement and with the ongoing challenges of operating a business in the ever-changing landscape, Badger has exhibited unprecedented growth with a 16.5 percent increase in sales year-to-date. When asked what contributed to that, Rita Horstmeier, sales/marketing manager at Badger noted, “A number of factors have fueled our growth: we'll produce minimum quantity orders that other tag and label printers won't consider, we recently realigned our sales territories and that always brings fresh perspective, we added capabilities about a year ago, and some of our smaller competitors have gone out of business.”

During LeMahieu's visit at Badger, he toured the facility, talked with employees, and shared his candidacy platform. As a small business owner himself, LeMahieu owns and publishes the Lakeshore Weekly community shopper paper, and knows firsthand how decisions made at the state and federal levels affect businesses.

Xanté Introduces Ilumina Heavyweight Champion Digital Print System

PSDA member Xanté is excited to announce the release of its newest print system: The Ilumina Heavyweight Champion Digital Print System. The system features ultra-thick printing capabilities (up to 500gsm/24-pt.) so customers can go digital and expand their media options and print services. It can print heavy stock brochures, vinyl, synthetic paper, cards, magnetic media or textured stocks on sheet sizes from 3x5”(76mmx127mm) up to 13x52” (330mmx1,321mm). This complete multimedia solution allows users to extend their printing services to include product packaging, POP displays, file folders, table tents, book covers, presentation folders, oversized banners and much more.

The Ilumina Heavyweight Champion Digital Print System features a color combination process that utilizes LED printheads, HD microfine toner and Single Pass Color technology. Government Printing Office May Change Name to Government Publishing Office

“As the GPO — which began operations the day Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated — looks to transition into the digital age, name changes are a big topic of conversation. If the agency has its way, and if Congress can get its act together to hold a vote on the matter, it will soon be called the Government Publishing Office. It's necessary, said Davita Vance-Cooks, the head of the GPO, or the public printer, because printing has become just a portion of what the agency does.”
