Admore Wins Gold Ink Award for Halloween Promotion

PSDA member Admore, a division of Ennis, Inc., recently received the Gold award in the folder category from the 27th annual Gold Ink Awards competition sponsored by Printing Impressions magazine. The piece awarded was the company's 11th annual Halloween promotion “Treasures Untold.”

“Finding ways to display a wide range of our capabilities is always the initial challenge when coming up with our annual Halloween promotions. Once we get the concept down and start creating ideas, the challenge reverses and we need to find a place to stop adding more features and intricate details,” said Lisa Goebel, Admore's marketing manager.

The “Treasure's Untold” folder, printed in four-color process, with multiple foil colors and detailed sculptured embossing, features a treasure map insert and its own pirate eye patch closure band. “Winning these awards, and more specifically winning the Gold Award in the folders category all four years that we've entered into what many consider the most prestigious print competition, helps acknowledge the creativity and hard work everyone here has put into making them successful,” said Bill Tignanelli, Admore's general manager.
Gill Studios Completes Purchase of Barton Nelson

PSDA member Gill Studios recently announced that its purchase of Barton Nelson is complete. The new company will be known as Bebco (Gill Bebco) and will reopen on Sept. 2, 2014. Barton Nelson's 53 years of quality and service has earned it many loyal and established customers. The combined knowledge of both companies in adhesives and printing will allow Gill Bebco to better serve the printing industry.

Gill is in the process of rehiring employees, and it will continue to operate out of the facility in Kansas City, Missouri, just 10 miles from Gill Studios. The company has also announced that Gill-line, as a U.S. manufacturer, has decided to build and maintain the necessary equipment in the Gill Bebco facility to ensure all of Gill Bebco's products will be made in the United States.

In an effort to share its progress and keep distributors up to date on when products will be available to them, Gill Bebco will be launching products in stages, including adhesive notes and scratch pads as early as Sept. 2; adhesive and non-adhesive cubes on Sept. 15; and 12-month calendar desk pads on Nov. 1.
Specialty Graphics Acquires Local Company

PSDA member Specialty Graphics Inc. in Des Moines, Iowa, has expanded its capabilities by acquiring a local printing and mailing company. It now offers full service in-house mail processing along with added capacity in its press and bindery departments.

“With the addition of a four-color Ryobi 524 sheet-fed press, we can now offer our distributors more competitive pricing on smaller color jobs that fall between our current digital and 28” press capabilities,” said President Scott Gaultert. “We have also added UV coating, perfect binding, spiral and wire-o binding, laminating and index tab cutting — bindery operations that we have had to previously outsource.”

Specialty Graphics is a full service trade-only printer that sells primarily to print distributors and other resellers in the graphic arts industry. They welcome Dean Reising to the sales department, Joe Reising as manager of the mailing area, Joyce Morgan in pre-press and Tom Gulick in the pressroom.
Ennis National Marketing Wins Inhouse Design Awards in Three Categories

PSDA member Ennis, Inc.'s National Marketing department recently received four awards, in three categories, from the GDUSA American Inhouse Design Awards , sponsored by The Creative Group and Endurance®. This year, there were more than 5,000 entries from every size and segment of the private, public and nonprofit sectors. The criteria for the GDUSA American Inhouse Design Awards are based on creativity and recognition of the contribution of inhouse designers and marketing departments through the special challenges they face.

Two completely redesigned sales kits, “Uncompromised Check Solutions” and “Tag & Label,” were awarded in the Sales Promotion and Sales Kits category. Both kits include unique folders, samples and sales materials that make them stand apart from the competition. In the Identity Design category, the overall “Ennis Corporate Rebranding” got extra attention by showing up on the first page of this category section. “Our corporate rebranding has been the staple of all of our marketing initiatives this past year,” said Steven Osterloh, vice president of marketing.

The creative spread “Pushing the Envelope,” which appeared in Print + Promo, won an advertisement award. This ad focused on unique tips for a distributor to use when trying to sell or cross-sell envelopes. “We are proud of all of the creative things we are able to produce as an internal marketing department, and being recognized for our design work in various categories proves that we are doing something right,” Osterloh said.
