PSDA Members: Take Print University Courses for Free

Through May 17, when the 2011 Print Solutions Conference and Expo begins, different content from the Print University archives will be available each week to PSDA members. This complimentary benefit — for PSDA members only — covers various topics related to Product Knowledge, Customer Service Excellence and Sales Training. PSDA Staff Profile: Meet Eric Johnson

Get to know members of your association staff in selected editions of the Print Solutions e-newsletter. This week, we feature Eric Johnson.

What is your role on the PSDA staff team?

As the senior manager of PSDA's Event Services team, I am responsible for event strategy and best practices for our meetings and events. I oversee a team of meeting and exhibit professionals who collaborate with the entire PSDA team and strive to provide outstanding customer service and educational networking events for PSDA members and future members.

Please describe your background and experiences that you bring to your role on the PSDA staff.
I'm a convention and meeting veteran. I've served on the hotel side in various capacities in convention service and as a hotel general manager. I have completed two industry accreditations, certified meeting planner (CMP) and a certificate in meeting management (CMM); have written for meeting industry textbooks and publications; have participated in international panel discussions regarding meeting management; and I will soon serve as vice president of finance for the Chicago Area Chapter of Meeting Professionals International. I've been planning and producing meetings for some of the finest associations in the world for many years, and look forward to doing the same for PSDA.

What are your first impressions of PSDA and its membership?
The members are very passionate, caring and have an endless capacity to share with each other. It was very evident at the Small Distributors Summit, my first event, through the several FOCUS events that I was fortunate to participate in last fall.

What is one "fun fact" or surprising piece of information about you?
I believe education doesn’t end in your 20s. I went back to college later in life and completed a master's degree in non-profit management.

Relyco Launches Check Printing Software Solution

PSDA member Relyco, a provider of value-added business printing solutions, recently launched CHEKSERV, an automated check printing software solution that improves efficiency and security and lowers costs. CHEKSERV is built on server-based architecture for Windows 7 that works with virtually any accounting and financial system to meet the demands of accounts payable and payroll check issuance. To save users time and money and prevent operational and external fraud, CHEKSERV has several new features, including the Smart Toolset, which makes account management, check and form design easy for any user; Intelligent Printing, which provides quick PDF image output of checks or other documents for archive, search and retrieval; and Positive Pay, which eliminates the risk of clearing duplicate or counterfeit checks.

Conformer Mailer Featured on Fox TV's "Fringe"

In "The Firefly" episode of Fox TV's "Fringe," which aired January 21, agent Olivia Dunham receives a mysterious book delivered in a Conformer Products paperboard mailer. The patented mailer makes its 15-second television debut immediately after the episode’s opening credits. "We don’t know how the mailer got such great product placement, but we applaud the Fox Network for choosing a Conformer mailer for one of its top-rated shows," said Sari McConnell, vice president of business development for PSDA member Conformer Products. Wilmer Marks Important Milestones in 2011

Wilmer is celebrating two important milestones in 2011: 85 years in business and 25 years as a proud PSDA member. The Dayton, Ohio-based company, a longtime leader in the document industry, is a wholesale manufacturer of business documents and related services to small business and home-based office market. Doug Apple (pictured), Wilmer director and general manager, noted, "While 2010 was a challenging year for our industry, we met those challenges head on. Wilmer emerged a stronger company, thanks in large part to our loyal customers. We value these partnerships, including our close working relationship with a revitalized PSDA. Four51 Announces New Products, Starbucks Coffee Promotion

PSDA member Four51 recently launched technology solutions and services designed to help distributors develop new revenue streams and develop the skills necessary to compete as a marketing services provider. Available by request during the next few months, the new products include FanTools, an enterprise deal engine that allows marketers to easily profile their Facebook fans and make offers to them; cross-media integration; and a cloud-based tool that allows end users to build and buy sales presentations, training materials, manuals and other documents online. PSDA member Western States Envelope & Label is a featured participant in the new Social Media Field Guide published by the Printing Industries of America. This guide, written by Julie Shaffer and Mary Garnett, is a handy resource that helps printers to understand social media and gives a not-too-technical approach for customer engagement and strategy.

Bestforms Announces Key Appointments

PSDA member Bestforms Inc. recently announced two changes in its organizational leadership. Joe Valdez has assumed the position of vice president/general manager and will oversee all operations of the specialty trade printer. Joe joined Bestforms in 1986 and has been a key leader in research and development and equipment procurement. Pat Valdez has been named vice president of sales and marketing, responsible for implementing the company's strategic marketing plan and directing main office functions. Pat has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles at Bestforms.
