LAX is open 24 hours daily, including holidays. Depending on flight schedules in each terminal, airline check-in counters and passenger security-screening areas open between 4:00 a.m.
to 9:00 a.m. and close between 12:00 midnight to 2:00 a.m. the next day.

Among the modes of transportation available at LAX are:  airport buses, door-to-door shuttle vans, local buses, light rail, rental cars, and taxicabs.  A free, frequent shuttle bus connects LAX with Metro’s Green Line Light Rail, and free shuttle buses transport passengers between airline terminals.

The LAX FlyAway® bus service provides frequent nonstop transportation between LAX and the new Exposition/La Brea Metro Rail Station, Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, the Van Nuys Bus Terminal, and Westwood/UCLA.  Click here for more details and fares on LAX FlyAway®.

As you leave the baggage claim area, multiple transportation options are available. Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Approximately 40 rental car companies operate out of LAX, with vehicle rental sites located off the airport. Many of these rental car companies provide phone links inside or near the baggage claim areas under the purple sign "Rental Car Shuttles" on the Lower/Arrival Level of the terminals so travelers can request a free shuttle pick up to reach the rental car sites.
